BELLE MEADE COMMONS :: Residential Patio Homes

Belle Meade Commons, a 13.56-acre adjoining parcel and its 34-lot patio home site plan (currently in the review process), could be made available to an interested buyer for a comprehensive senior campus design. New Hanover and Brunswick County will receive half of the state’s 400 allotted nursing home beds (Star News, January 25, 2007). If so desired, this parcel could be re-evaluated for a density increase, pending review and approval by New Hanover County Planning Board and County Commissioners (120-day process upon submittal). With the current needs of the community for senior housing (see Star News articles), it is anticipated that a well-prepared site plan would receive a favorable outcome.

The homes showcase a back alley design that limits driveway encroachments off the collector road. Further the attractive streetscape, with its beautifully landscaped center islands and traffic calming round-a-bouts, will carry through Pine Hollow Drive extension. Sidewalks to the adjoining Belle Meade Centre will promote walking or bike riding to shopping, eating or everyday services, enhancing quality living. Space is available for an amenities package, which could potentially be shared with Belle Meade Plantation homeowners, an added bonus. Additionally, Belle Meade Commons could be part and parcel of the adjoining independent living site as a comprehensive senior development.
