Belle Meade Centre: Live. Play. Work. Shop.
The philosophy of Belle Meade Centre is to create a pedestrian-friendly retail hub where people can conveniently run errands, shop or simply relax with friends and family. Picture an open-air retail environment linked by wide sidewalks containing: central theatre complex, drug store, coffee shop, bookstore, bank, boutiques, shoe store, ice cream shop, restaurants and even a grocery store. Location: Belle Meade Centre is the commercial component of a 72-acre mixed-use development located off of Highway 421, one mile north of Monkey Junction, in New Hanover County, NC. The property is conveniently situated with easy access to downtown Wilmington, 17th Street Extension, New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Carolina Beach in the rapidly expanding southern portion of the county. This commercial node was recently expanded to include 11 buildings (zoned CD-B1),and approved for up to 213,000 square-feet of retail and office space, including a 50,000 square foot grocery store pad. The adjoining 9-acre tract was unanimously approved on December 1, 2008 for a 14-screen movie theatre (CD-B2) and associated retail (see Press Room) and is currently under contract with Stone Theatre Group. When these areas are combined, the total approved square footage exceeds 280,000. Demographic: This mixed-use town center will provide goods and services to a growing population, which already includes an 87,000 person demographic within a 5-mile radius. Infrastucture: Belle Meade provides optimal interconnectivity by joining Highways 421 and 132 via Pine Hollow Drive extension and Matteo Drive at the intersection of Silva Terra Drive and Highway 421. Further interconnectivity is provided by the Sikes Drive extension linking the project to Saint Andrews Drive. All horizontal infrastructure, (including the first approved round-a-bouts in New Hanover County), is completed and all utilities are permitted and in place,. The infrastructure also includes major improvements at the signalized intersection of Silva Terra Drive, Matteo Drive and Highway 421. Expected Traffic: Highway 421 currently operates at over 30,000 cars per day and the TIA indicates the center will generate over 20,000 trips daily, which includes an internal capture of an estimated 5000 trips from adjoining neighborhoods (See TIA table). |
