INDEPENDENT LIVING :: Senior Living Center

“Retirees flock to Southern North Carolina drawn by a mild climate, southern charm and white sand beaches.” “North Carolina has the third largest net migration of retirees in the United States.” (Star News, January 21, 2007. See press room)

The 6.2-acre, 3 story 116-unit approved independent living site is ideally located within the Belle Meade master plan. It’s just a few carefree steps to the Belle Meade Centre, a 280,000 s.f. mixed-use open air plaza with a Charleston-like flair. Approvals are in place for a 14-screen cineplex, a 50,000 s.f. grocery store and 12 other buildings, potentially offering a wide range of goods and services. Storm water retention and related infrastructure for the independent living site is completed including the installation of both city water and county sewer lines. Fire hydrants exist in two locations on the site.

Sidewalks bordering all thoroughfares throughout the 72-acre site plan add to Belle Meade’s “senior friendly” design. The streetscape along Pine Hollow Drive extension will continue the precedent set in Belle Meade Plantation of center islands landscaped with street lamps and Crepe Myrtles. The site is further enhanced by traffic circles and a planned entrance fountain centrally located in the round-a-bout that frames the independent living site. When completed, the structure and water element will be visible from Highway 421 and adjoining parcels.

Complimenting the anticipated services, goods and leisure activities is the peace of mind that New Hanover Regional Medical Center is just a short 3.5 miles away. This Level II Trauma Center is the county’s largest employer and is more than prepared should the need for medical services arise.
